Girly weekend away? Our stay at the CUTEST rural AirBnb…

Graystock Lodge // Cockerham

So I had to write a review… I have taken this the perfect opportunity to write about the fabulous Graystock Lodge myself and my friends spent a few nights at, towards the end of summer. We were looking for accommodation that was away from the normalities of daily life, for a get together to wrap up the summer break. Graystock Lodge, Rural Cockerham

After many group discussions about what and where, we began our search for the perfect accommodation.

Our checklist was as follows:

  • Reasonably Priced (We’re all students!)
  • The whole place to ourselves
  • Not too far away from home
  • Parking on site
  • Hot Tub (Obviously an essential!)

After finding Graystock Lodge on AirBnb we messaged Angela (The Host) a couple of questions then booked almost immediately. It was around a 1½ drive from home, a beautiful route along A roads, across the Yorkshire Dales. We then arrived at the small village of Cockerham – just 6 Miles south of Lancashire.

Ok, so yes I drove straight past the lodge and we got a little lost, but we phoned Mike and within a couple of minutes he had amended our mistakes and we had made it (bareing in mind we were literally only 1 minute away – not as lost as we initially thought!)

The lodge itself was situated down an idyllic country lane, within the grounds of Angela & Mikes property. We were warmly welcomed by Mike who showed us around, we were all immediately impressed by the Lodge and its stunning surroundings.

The Lodge

The lodge consisted of the biggest corner sofa (which turns into a sofa bed), a small kitchen but with everything you would ever need, dining table and chairs with a toilet/sink inside the lodge too. It was warm, clean and had everything you would need for a peaceful weekend away.

Just across the way, in an extended part of the main house is where you would find the double bedroom, a modern bathroom and a tea/coffee/hot chocolate station. (Hot chocolates are essential for me and my friends!)

Angela has thought of every detail for hosting, with robes and slippers for late night hot tub dips in addition to a fresh welcome pack consisting of eggs, bread & butter, milk, orange juice, biscuits and more!

Location // Things To Do

The lodge itself is situated around 20 minutes away from Blackpool, Lancaster and Preston. It is tucked away but perfect for a short walk, or long stroll along the Coast or river Wyre.

Of course this means if you want to spend your time in Blackpools centre or drive up to Lancaster and visit the shops you can, however personally I’d recommend just making minimal plans and seeing how you feel over the weekend as to what you do.

There isn’t much within Cockerham itself, a little corner shop a 5 minute drive away and there’s a few pubs and cafe’s around the area. The lodge is within walking distance a brewery/pub/bar which is just down the road – we didn’t get out of the hot tub to go but it would be the perfect place for an evening drink.

I’m telling you about the things you can do but to be completely honest we barely left the lodge! Apart from a quick stop at the corner shop for a toothbrush the only thing we did was a short walk down the cycle path to the canal. Starting from the Bay Horse Inn (free car parking!). The walk isn’t too far and is away from any main roads and traffic – perfect for taking kids with you! (Also great for quick instagram shoots of the beautiful scenery!)

Take Note…

  • You WILL need a car, there’s no two ways about it you need your own transport to get to/from the lodge.

Pen-Y-Ghent

To end our weekend we planned to climb Pen-y-ghent on the way home. The smallest of the three Yorkshire peaks, situated within Horton-in-Ribblesdale in Settle – just over an hour from Graystock Lodge. At just over a 6 mile climb we set off with our packed sandwiches and plenty of water, taking the red route up the mountain.

It was an ideal way to end the weekend, we needed some physical activity to counteract the nice food we’d eaten and lack of movement from the hot tub over the previous few days. Looking back at it now, it wasn’t too hard – however I do have my friends to thank for the continuous motivation needed to get to the top! Definitely worth making a day of it if you have the chance and find yourself staying near the area.

So…

There is my review of the most relaxing, well needed, girly weekend away. Thank you to Angela and Mike for being brilliant hosts. I also have to say a huge thank you to my wonderful friends, for making it the most lovely weekend! I am very grateful for you and love you all lots.
